The team at Burton Soup Kitchen were delighted to welcome the Mayor of East Staffordshire to Rangemore Street, Burton town centre this week. Councillor Patricia Ackroyd and the Mayors Consort, Mike Ackroyd joined the team to mark the organisations transition to a Community Interest Company (CIC) and officially welcome new chairman, Gary Steen.
Councillor Ackroyd commented “We were delighted to be invited to Burton Soup Kitchen, it is really important to me that we are involved in such a vital community project that helps so many people. The central location of the Soup Kitchen in Burton town centre means it is really accessible for people to get to. Not only do they provide a high standard of food, but what I noticed immediately was the social aspect – the warm, welcoming atmosphere as soon as you arrive.”
It was a chance meeting at the local Statutes fair that led me to invite the local Mayor to visit us. The Mayor said send me the details & I’ll see where I can fit you in. She seemed very interested, so I set the ball rolling. During my stint as Chair we had a few of the local dignitaries visit us, this in my opinion helped to raise our profile. No doubt the new Chair will have some names up his sleeve to help our profile keep in the public’s eye.
